A coach guiding a client through a dumbbell lift in a quiet, daylit training studio

One-to-one coaching studio

Training written for one person at a time.

Linen Quill is a small studio where every session is planned around the body in front of it — your history, your week, and the thing you actually want to be able to do.

Strength · Return to movement · Remote programming

The approach

Slow to load, quick to listen.

I am Rowan Vance, and I coach full time out of a single room with good light and enough floor space to do things properly. Most people arrive carrying an old injury, a long gap, or a plan that someone else wrote for someone else. We start by undoing that.

The first block is deliberately unhurried: we find out what your joints will give us, build a base you can repeat, and only then start adding load. It is less dramatic than the first week of most programmes and considerably more durable by the third month.

  • One plan, revised often

Your programme is a living document. It changes when your sleep, workload or shoulder says it should.

  • Technique before intensity

Load is earned. We hold a movement at a weight you own until the pattern is boring, then we progress it.

  • Built for a real week

Two or three sessions you will genuinely keep beats a five-day split that collapses by February.

Training

Three ways to work together.

Each one starts with the same consultation, so you can change route later without starting over.

In studio

One-to-one strength

The core offer. Barbell, dumbbell and bodyweight work built toward a handful of lifts you keep for years, with every session coached from the floor rather than a clipboard.

Rebuild

Return to movement

For bodies coming back from a long pause, a cautious surgeon or a stubborn niggle. Low load, high attention, and a clear line from the first session to the thing you have stopped doing.

Cadence
Weekly, forty-five minutes

Remote

Programming only

For people who already train well and want the planning taken off their hands. You send footage, I send the next block and the reasoning behind it — no guesswork, no copy-pasted template.

Suits
Confident lifters training in their own gym
Cadence
Four-week blocks, reviewed in a call
Includes
Written block, technique feedback, mid-block adjustment

A session

What an hour here actually looks like.

No surprises, no bootcamp theatre. The structure stays the same even as the content changes.

  1. Check in

Five minutes on sleep, soreness and the week ahead. It changes what we do next more often than you would expect.

  2. Prepare

Warm-up chosen for the day's lifts — the joints that need waking, not a generic ten minutes on a bike.

  3. Main work

Two or three lifts, coached set by set, with load adjusted live rather than fixed in advance.

  4. Close out

Accessory work, a short cool-down, and a written note on what to carry into your own training days.

Questions

Before you enquire.

Do I need to be fit before I start?
No. The first block is designed around whatever you can do comfortably today, and most clients begin with bodyweight and light loading. Arriving unfit is the ordinary case, not the exception.
What should I bring to the first session?
Trainers with a flat sole, clothes you can move in, and water. If you have notes from a physiotherapist or a recent clearance letter, bring those too — they shape the plan.
How does scheduling work?
Clients hold a repeating slot in the week, agreed at the consultation. Studio hours run early mornings and late afternoons on weekdays, with a limited number of weekend-morning slots.
What if I need to cancel?
Let me know at least twenty-four hours ahead and we will move the session within the same fortnight. Illness and genuine emergencies are never charged for.
